Amaiya Walters is a summer student at Gorham Vandebeek LLP and recently completed her second year of law school at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Lincoln Alexander School of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University in Sociology and Black Studies, as well as a Certificate in Law. While at Queen’s, she led various Black student organizations and was awarded the Robert Sutherland Award for demonstrating leadership in anti-racism and anti-oppression work.

Throughout law school, Amaiya has gained experience in criminal defence work, assisting clients with criminal matters, and record suspension applications at the Lincoln Alexander Legal Clinic. She also worked as a research assistant through TMU’s Criminology Department, where she examined how Black youth were impacted by diversion programs.

Amaiya’s education and experiences, grounded in criminal justice and systemic equity, inform her commitment to criminal defence, client advocacy, and access to justice.
